Electric Griddle and Indoor Electric Griddles

After the last post about the popular George Foreman Grill GGR50B I didn’t have a lot of free time to update the site. The model mentioned above obviously isn’t an electric griddle but an outdoor grill of the George Foreman company that I already wrote some information about (they produce dozens of kitchen appliances including the George Foreman indoor grill GRP99).

However, what’s the use of electric griddles at all? Some people believe that there is no significant difference between an indoor electric griddle and an indoor electric grill or other appliances such as Panini press or waffle maker. While there are some similarities between all these units that are mentioned above, this is not exactly true.

There are a couple of brands that produce electric grills and or electric griddles, and there are even a wider variety of such products so it really can be quite confusing. However, the Electric Griddle is mainly an appliance used for cooking pancakes, French toasts, eggs, bacon and more. It usually has a smooth surface with a nonstick coating that help the user both maintain and clean the unit since food shouldn’t stick to the cooking surface as long as you follow the instructions.

Some models such as those of the Presto brand have another attractive feature – the ability to sink the griddle electric unit in water. Obviously this can really shorter the time and efforts that the user needs to spend cleaning the griddle but if you are not careful you might damage the nonstick surface. One such unit is the Presto big griddle that is most probably one of the more popular electric griddles of Presto.

As opposed to the indoor electric griddle most of the indoor electric grills don’t have a smooth surface, but a ridged one that will create those delicious grill marks if you know how to use the unit (and if the unit is a quality one and not a defect). For example the George Foreman indoor electric grill is a good example of a popular grill that does a nice job with both cleaning and cooking. As long as you know what you are doing, you can easily sear chicken breasts, pork chops and other foods and they would be tasty and looking delicious with those nice grill marks.

Unlike the usual electric griddle, some of the indoor electric grills can be quite hard to clean, and the food can stick pretty badly if the unit doesn’t have a quality nonstick coating. If the griddle grill has removable nonstick plates then you wouldn’t have to work as hard cleaning the appliance when you compare it to an electric grill that doesn’t have removable plates and easy cleaning features.
